QUT will share in $260 million in funding for health and medical research projects across Australia, aimed at delivering better treatments, diagnosis, and care.
Through the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Ideas Grants scheme, QUT researchers were awarded four grants.
Faculty of Health Professor Gene Tyson and his team received $1,181,878 for their research into strain-level characterisation and visualisation of the mucosal microbial communities associated with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) for the development of novel biotherapeutics
Faculty of Health’s Associate Professor Divya Mehta and her team received $1,137,427 for their research into biopsychosocial risk and protective factors of trauma exposure in first responders.
Science and Engineering Faculty Professor Yin Xiao and his team received $866,728 for his research into bone healing gel.
Faculty of Health Associate Professor Chamindie Punyadeera and her team received $691,933 for their research into Biosensor based clinical-decision support for patients with heart failure.
Ideas Grants support a wide range of research from discovery science through to clinical research, health services and public health research. This year’s Ideas Grants included 45 grants focused on cancer research, 68 grants on infectious diseases and 13 grants on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
