Why choose QUT?

We are a major Australian university with a global outlook and a 'real world' focus.

With over 50,000 students, including almost 8,000 international students, and an annual budget of more than $800 million, we're positioned to grow and develop as one of the nation's leading universities.

A world-class university

We are an ambitious and collaborative institution that seeks to equip our students and graduates with the skills they will need in an increasingly disrupted and challenged world. Our graduates include eight Rhodes Scholars, five of these awarded in the past six years.

Our internationally award-winning Science and Engineering Centre is home to The Cube, acknowledged as one of the world's largest digital interactive learning and display spaces. QUT established the world's first Creative Industries Faculty, and we invest heavily in collaborative learning and interdisciplinary research environments.

At QUT we don't just teach theory, we put theory into practice. We're internationally recognised for giving you the best possible opportunity at success:

  • We're one of the top 300 universities globally (QS Top Universities Ranking, 2016),
  • We're ranked in the 201-250 band globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (2016), and ranked 28th in the world in the Times Higher Education Top 150 under 50 (2016).
  • We have also achieved a 201-300 world ranking in the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.
  • QUT Business School was the first business school in Australia to achieve triple international accredition (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA). Less than 1% of all business schools globally have achieved this.
  • Our media and communication studies are ranked 1st in Australia and 21st in the world (QS World University Ranking by Subject, 2016).
  • We're ranked 8th in Australia and 38th in the world for nursing (QS World University Ranking by Subject, 2016).
  • We're welcoming to international students. 85% of our international students would recommend QUT to their friends (International Student Barometer Queensland, 2014).
  • Our graduates achieve their career goals. We're ranked 7th in Australia and in the 71-80 band globally for graduate employability (QS Graduate Employability Ranking, 2016).

Strength in research

We're always contributing to new knowledge in our areas of research strength. Our researchers are working to find solutions to today's complex problems. In the Excellence in Research for Australia Ranking (ERA, 2015), 100% of submitted QUT research was assessed at being world standard or above.
