Biography
Dr Sadegh Niazi is a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, QUT. Dr Niazi's field of research is air quality, focusing on bioaerosol and airborne infection. He has an exceptional track record of research excellence in bioaerosol science. He is a vital part of a collaborative team that discovered several important findings in the field of indoor airborne infection, including development of tools to perform bioaerosols aging and their physicochemical behaviour in different indoor air scenarios. His PhD and postdoctoral projects were focused on addressing several knowledge gaps concerning the impacts of efflorescence/deliquescence behaviour of the salt naturally present in respiratory aerosols on airborne virus survival and transmission. Dr Niazi uses innovative integrative experimental design to assess the validity of entirely unique hypotheses addressing the role of atmospheric parameters in driving the airborne transmission of respiratory infections. His research outcomes demonstrate vital knowledge and skills across multiple disciplines, agilely connecting different themes at the forefront of aerosol physics and instrumentation, indoor air quality, atmospheric chemistry and biological science.
Background: In 2014, Sadegh completed his master’s degree specialising in environmental health engineering at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). In 2017, Sadegh was recruited to QUT’s collaborative ARC discovery project at the International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health (ILAQH) and the Centre for Children’s Health Research (CCHR) as a research assistant. In 2018, Sadegh was awarded the QUT Scholarship and Tuition Fee Sponsorship Award to complete his PhD in elucidating the airborne transmission of respiratory viruses. In May 2021, following his PhD final seminar and thesis submission, Sadegh was recruited in a full-time postdoctoral research position at School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, QUT.
