Biography
Pete Lazzarini is a podiatrist and Professor of Diabetes Foot Disease at Queensland University of Technology and Metro North Hospital & Health Service in Brisbane, Australia. He holds an Australian National Health and Medical Research Council Investigator Fellowship, and his research focuses on quantifying disease burdens, identifying key risk factors and developing novel treatments for people with diabetes foot disease.Pete has authored >130 peer-reviewed papers, >70 other research publications (abstracts, reports, guidelines, book chapters), >130 international conference presentations, attracted >$AU16 million in grant funding and supervised 19 PhD/MPhil students in the field. He has also served on many international diabetes foot disease committees, including Chair of the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot Offloading Guideline, Past Chair of the Australian Diabetic Foot Guidelines and Founding Chair of Diabetes Feet Australia. Furthermore, he has also received numerous awards including the Rising Star and Top Study Awards at the International Diabetic Foot Symposium and an Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award by Diabetes Feet Australia.
Pete leads a program that is producing paradigm changing new knowledge and health impacts in three main diabetes foot disease areas and he is particularly motivated by nurturing the next generation of researchers that will develop the tools, techniques, policies and pathways to end avoidable amputations within a generation.
