Professor Pedro Gomis-Porqueras

Biography
Pedro Gomis-Porqueras received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001, under the supervision of Professors Bruce Smith and Scott Freeman. Before joining Queensland University of Technology (QUT), he held academic appointments as Assistant Professor at the University of Miami, Associate Professor at the Australian National University and Monash University, and Professor at Deakin University.
He is a regular visitor to various central banks around the world, engaging with policymakers and contributing to research discussions. His research and teaching focus on macroeconomics, with particular emphasis on monetary economics, search theory, and financial intermediation.

Experience
Pedro is actively engaged in connecting academic research with policy practice. He is a founding member of the Search and Matching (SaM) Asia-Pacific group and the Australasian Macroeconomics Society, and a member of the Central Bank Research Association, the Macro Finance Society, the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory, and the Econometric Society. Through these roles, he has organized and contributed to numerous international conferences and workshops, fostering dialogue between academics and policymakers.
He is a regular Visiting Scholar at several central banks. These visits provide opportunities to collaborate on policy-relevant research and to contribute insights into ongoing debates in monetary and financial economics. For instance, Pedro has participated in the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Academic Roundtable, a high-level forum designed to support senior leadership at the Bank, particularly the Governor, by integrating academic insights into policy deliberations.
In addition, Pedro has contributed extensively to research evaluation at both national and international levels. He served as a Research Evaluation Committee Member for the ERA 2018, and as an Expert Reviewer for Excellence Research Australia (2011, 2015), the Australian Research Council (2015, 2016), the Icelandic Research Fund (2014), MIT Press (2014), and the Israel Science Foundation (2011).
