Biography
A/Prof Julie Marchant is a mid-career clinical research fellow at the Centre for Children’s Health Research, Brisbane, Queensland. She is also a consultant paediatric respiratory physician at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, and part of QCH Indigenous Respiratory Outreach Care (IROC) team dealivering care to rural and remote communities. Her PhD studies were critical in the building of the clinical definition of protracted bacterial bronchitis (PBB) in children which was given a ICD11 code (J41.2) in 2022 and now has forms part of the Australian, European, and North American guidelines for managing chronic cough in children. Her ongoing research interests are childhood chronic wet cough, with particular focus on PBB and bronchiectasis in children. Her research has provided critical evidence for the management of chronic wet cough in childhood and led to improved health outcomes through early intervention. She holds an NHRMC EL-2 Investigator grant and is lead CI for a current NHMRC MRFF-funded multi-centre international RCT on the use of colchicine in children with bronchiectasis exacerbations, as well as being CI on numerous other multi-centre national and international RCTs with translational health outcomes.Personal details
