Experience
In Australia, my work has been recognised as essential for achieving nature-positive targets in South Australia’s Conservation Policy. My research informs mangrove restoration decision-making in Latin America and Africa. In 2022, I worked with the National Commission for Natural Protected Areas in Mexico to help redirect federal and private investment in mangrove restoration to areas with a higher probability of success. In Madagascar, I am co-developing the National Mangrove Restoration Plan for Madagascar together with the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, local communities, and students from the University of Antananarivo. In Belize, my national-scale research about optimal investment in mangrove restoration and protection influenced version 3.0 of the country’s commitments towards the National Determined Contributions for the Paris Climate Agreement. My work has also been cited in international policy, including IUCN and UNESCO.
