Dr Dawit Zemedikun

Biography

Dr Dawit Zemedikun is a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI), School of Public Health and Social Work, Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He is a biostatistician and health econometrician with more than eight years of international research experience in real-world data analytics, epidemiology and public health research. Before joining QUT, he was a Research Fellow in Cardiovascular Epidemiology at the University of Western Australia and previously held research roles in health data science and medical statistics at the University of Birmingham in the UK. His work has involved large, linked health data incorporating hospital, emergency department, pathology, and mortality data, as well as primary care and other electronic health records (EHRs).

At AusHSI, Dawit leads and contributes to research focused on the epidemiology, risk factors and outcomes of diabetes-related foot disease (DFD), including quantifying the disease and economic burden, identifying high-risk populations, evaluating adverse health outcomes, and developing geospatial atlases. His methodological strengths include linked-data analysis, advanced biostatistical and epidemiological methods, health econometrics, healthcare resource utilisation and cost analysis, and multimorbidity patterns and trajectory analysis. He brings expertise to support rigorous study design, analysis and interpretation of complex health data, with a particular focus on generating evidence that can inform health policy, clinical practice and health service improvement.
