Biography
Chris Cosgrove is an experienced educator and screen production professional with over 15 years in the industry, specialising in editing and directing. As the writer and director of Boldly Go, an autobiographical short film about the challenges of living with a colostomy bag, Chris has championed both disability and LGBTQIA+ on-screen representation through personal storytelling. The film has been officially selected for over twenty international festivals, including BFI Flare: London LGBTIQ+ Film Festival, Inside Out: Toronto LGBTQ+ Film Festival, ReelAbilities New York (the largest disability film festival in the United States), and Leeds International Film Festival. It is currently streaming on ABC iView.Chris holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television from QUT (2009) and a Graduate Certificate in Screen Directing from AFTRS (2018). He has taught as an Associate Lecturer at QUT and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is a member of both the Australian Screen Editors Guild and the Australian Directors Guild.
Chris’s teaching emphasises technology-enhanced, student-centred learning. To address issues in FYHE students' professional email communication, he created Mail Fail: 3 Handy Tips for Emailing Your Tutor, a blended learning video that has been viewed over 8,000 times on YouTube and adopted university-wide. This innovative solution earned Chris a QUT Sessional Teaching and Reflective Showcase Award in 2016. He also received a QUT Vice-Chancellor’s Performance Award for excellence in teaching the same year.
