Student with Potential Awards

Since 2008, the QUT, Student with Potential (SWP) Awards program has been encouraging young learners to realise their full potential. Designed specifically to acknowledge students from backgrounds that are under-represented in higher education, QUT asks representatives within each of the participating school communities to nominate students, who may not always be recognised for their efforts within the school environment.

By recognising the capabilities of these young individuals, the SWP program not only aims to foster aspirations but also encourages award recipients to pursue academic success in their current studies and beyond. Through celebrations and events held at QUT, SWP award nominees and their families are given a unique opportunity to experience the vibrant QUT community.  We hope that our engagement with SWP recipients will help in their post-school career decision-making and any preconceived beliefs about university, setting them confidently on a path towards future success.

Thrive at QUT

Thrive at QUT is a transition and connection program designed to support students as they begin their journey at QUT. The program focuses on helping students build confidence, community, and a strong sense of belonging during their first and second year of university.  Thrive at QUT brings students together through small-group activities, conversations, and workshops designed to help them navigate university life and develop the skills and networks they need to succeed.

What the program offers

Students participating in Thrive at QUT can expect opportunities to:

  • receive financial support for their transition to study
  • connect with other students in a supportive environment
  • build confidence and a sense of belonging at QUT
  • develop practical skills for university study and careers
  • hear from guest speakers and mentors
  • explore pathways for personal, academic, and career development.

Who the program is for

Thrive at QUT is an invitation-based program for selected first-year students connected with QUT’s widening participation and outreach initiatives, including students who have participated in programs such as Student With Potential, Get Uni Ready, and Pasifika Navigators, as well as other students identified through equity pathways.
