What is public health at QUT?

Public health professionals are skilled in developing and delivering health initiatives that focus on improving the health and wellbeing of whole populations, locally and on a global scale. Health information managers support these efforts through the provision of quality health information.

Choose your area of specialisation

Our public health degree offers the flexibility to design a study program in areas that interest you. It's a great opportunity to explore aspects of public health and develop your own unique mix of knowledge and skills. If you're studying a Bachelor of Public Health you can also study units from other areas at the university including justice, business, media and communication, psychology and nutrition.

Our health information management degree includes study in medical science, management and eHealth. You'll learn in cross-disciplinary settings with students in health and other degrees at QUT. A degree in health information management offers opportunities to work in a variety of health settings.

Get industry experience

You can complete professional placements in metropolitan and regional areas in Queensland, or travel overseas to learn more about international healthcare systems. We work closely with leading universities and research centres around the world, and recently our students have travelled to Vietnam, India and Cambodia.

If you're studying a Bachelor of Health Information Management you'll visit professionals working in local hospitals, government agencies and not-for-profit organisations, which offers an insight into the profession and valuable networking opportunities. Industry placements during second and third years prepare you for your transition into the workplace.
