Choose the right course

If you haven't completed university study before and you want to be a teacher, you can study the Bachelor of Education (Secondary).

If you want to become a teacher and already have an undergraduate degree, you can study the Graduate Diploma in Education (Senior Years).

If you're already a registered teacher and you want to specialise in a particular field of education, you may be interested in studying an education specialisation.

Real-world teaching skills

In our Bachelor of Education (Secondary), you'll learn to teach Year 7 to 12 in secondary school, and become a qualified specialist in your two chosen teaching areas. You'll learn approaches to teaching and planning instruction for subjects in junior and senior schooling. You'll be taught by leading academics and equipped with quality support and cutting-edge resources.

In our undergraduate courses, to guide your career in your chosen direction, you can specialise in two of the following teaching areas:

Professional placements

We organise professional placements so you can work in real school classrooms, supervised by practising professionals. Our Bachelor of Education students can also be chosen for additional opportunities to spend more time in schools or other settings to gain extra experience.

Career outcomes

You'll graduate with a solid knowledge of education and be ready to teach in secondary schools. Your skills and work experience will also prepare you for a variety of other careers, including as a community education officer or training developer.

Your qualification also allows you to work in other locations in Australia and overseas.

Through the Stepping Out conference in the final year of your course, you can seek advice from education sector representatives to help you transition to your first real teaching job.

Meet teaching standards

This course meets the professional teaching standards for graduate teachers for the Queensland College of Teachers.

Graduates are eligible to apply for teacher registration, which lets you start working as a teacher.
