Why study interior design at QUT?

  • Learn to create tailored environments, including custom-designed furniture, lighting, walls, partitions, flooring, fabrics and graphics.
  • Work on real projects for real clients to solve issues in a studio-based learning environment.
  • Learn to consider all aspects of interior environments, including purpose, efficiency, safety, comfort and aesthetics.

Hands-on learning

In our interior design courses, you'll work for real projects and real clients, and solve real issues in a studio-based setting. Your studies will be supported by new digital technologies, well-equipped workshops and design studios.

You'll conceptualise and develop your designs using models, full-scale material constructs and digital animations. Our design fabrication labs provide a space for hands-on design prototyping - from models to full-scale material constructs and digital animations.

Real-world skills

You'll learn to create environments - including custom-designed furniture - by considering purpose, efficiency, safety and aesthetics.

Get experience working as part of a team of industry professionals that may include architects, builders, project managers, engineering consultants, shopfitters, cabinet makers, furniture suppliers and material suppliers.

Diversify your study

Our Bachelor of Design (Interior Architecture) integrates design with social and environmental issues. You can diversify your study with minors or a second major, giving you further career options.

Our Work Integrated Learning program also lets you combine professional workplace practice with academic learning.

Learn from the best

Our lecturers and tutors are award-winning practitioners who work in interior design. They incorporate their industry experience to teach you the knowledge and skills you require to graduate as an employable designer. We also use their connections to promote your work in public settings.

You'll collaborate with the professional design community through public lectures, student-run exhibitions, and off-campus and international study tours to European design capitals, including Italy, Switzerland, Germany and France.

Pathways to postgraduate study

Turn your creative interests and professional expertise into a postgraduate research degree to master new techniques, skills and research methods. Complete your research as either a thesis or a practical industry-focused creative work, with a written component.
