Overview

This course develops your ability to lead the implementation of effective quality and patient safety programs within a health care setting. We examine the role of leaders and advanced governance principles for quality and safety. You will learn how to build a culture of high performance, innovation, reform, and safety.

Who should participate

This course is ideal if you are a health care manager, quality manager, in a position of leadership within a health care setting, or considering a career change in the area of quality and safety improvement.

Details:

This 4-day intensive course includes workshops, seminars, and independent learning activities.

You can complete the workshop modules only, or choose to also complete the optional assessment module. Assessment includes development of a grant proposal written in the format of a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) or similar grant application.

Credit eligibility

Credit (advanced standing) in a postgraduate award course is available if you successfully complete the workshop and assessment.

Content

The course covers:

  • strategic leadership for quality and safety in different health care settings and across the organization
  • clinical governance challenges
  • quality system design
  • engaging clinicians in quality improvement
  • driving improvement through change and innovation
  • designing improvement projects.

Course materials

You will receive reference texts and online access to databases through Blackboard or the QUT Library. No textbook is required.

Outcomes

You will learn how to:

  • apply knowledge of the international, national and local health care, leadership models and quality and safety frameworks, to improve patient safety and health care quality
  • critically analyse the impact of leadership, teamwork and culture on innovation, reform and performance management related to quality and patient safety

Payment

To register for the course, pay your fees online by credit card, cheque and BPAY. There is an option to pay via invoice, if payment by the previous options are not possible.

FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP are not available for professional development courses.

Terms and conditions

We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule the course if insufficient registrations are received, or if the course leader or venue becomes unavailable due to circumstances beyond its control. Should this occur, we will endeavour to provide participants as much notice as possible. If we are required to cancel or reschedule the course a full refund will be paid to the participant if a substitution of dates is convenient for the attendee.

Cancellations

You will be charged a cancellation fee of 10% if you cancel less than 14 days before event. All cancellations or variations to registration must be made in writing to Paula Bowman.

Substitutions

Substitute participants are welcome in lieu of cancellation up to the scheduled course date. Advise us of any substitute participants before course commencement. Substituting participants will not incur a fee.
