Credit eligibility

Option to undertake assessment for credit (advanced standing) in the unit Leadership in Health Management (PUN632) in some postgraduate award courses.

Course modules

The course will be divided into two separate blocks:

  • Block 1: Effective leadership by individuals and organisations
  • Block 2: Resolving conflict, building workplaces

Course content

The course will explore the role of health care leaders in:

  • corporate and clinical governance
  • continuous quality improvement
  • organisational performance, financial performance and evaluation
  • media and communications
  • strategic policy, planning and evaluation
  • community and staff engagement
  • leadership and team building
  • change management.

Outcomes

On completion of this course, you will have:

  • an understanding of the principles and concepts of organisational governance and the systems and structures required to exact governance
  • an understanding of the principles and concepts of quality management and continuous quality improvement
  • the ability to critically evaluate organisational performance
  • the ability to manage media and communications both internally and externally
  • an understanding of the principles and practice of policy development, planning and evaluation
  • the ability to understand and demonstrate personal attributes and leadership skills and the ability to engage staff and the community and to lead strategic negotiations
  • an understanding of the relevance of Indigenous and international health issues to health management.

Payment

To register for the course, pay your fees online by credit card, cheque or BPAY. There is an option to pay via invoice, if payment by these options is not possible.

FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP are not available for professional development courses.

Australasian College of Health Service Managers (ACHSM) members receive a 15% discount. Provide your ACHSM membership number to receive your discount.

Terms and conditions

We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule the course if we receive insufficient registrations, or if the course leader or venue becomes unavailable due to circumstances beyond our control. Should this occur, we will endeavour to provide participants as much notice as possible. If we are required to cancel or reschedule the course, we will pay your a full refund if a substitution of dates is not convenient for you.

Cancellations

If you cancel within 14 days of the event or less, a cancellation fee of 10% will be charged. All cancellations or variations to registration must be made in writing to the course coordinator.

Other variations to registration

Substitute participants are welcome in lieu of cancellation up to the scheduled course date. Advise us of any substitute participants before course commencement. Substituting participants will not incur a fee.
