Innovation and entrepreneurial thinking are at the forefront of living, working and teaching in the twenty-first century. In today’s real world, teachers, school leaders and students need innovative thinking, creativity and the confidence to act on new ideas. With entrepreneurial thinking skills teachers can put innovative ideas into action in classrooms and in schools to help enhance learning and education and make it relevant in today’s world.

This 13-hour online module expands on the optional two-hour preview course offered through FutureLearn. Please note this course was originally titled Teaching entrepreneurial thinking.

Who should participate

This online module has been designed for teachers and educational leaders who want to improve their teaching practice and develop new skills to advance their career. It may also be of interest to edupreneurs and anyone looking to support students in learning entrepreneurial thinking.

For Australian educators, this course aligns with the following Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST):

  • 1.1 Physical, social and intellectual development and characteristics of students
  • 1.2 Understand how students learn
  • 2 Know the content and how to teach it
  • 3.1 Establish challenging learning goals
  • 3.2 Plan, structure and sequence learning programs

Workshop topics

In this activity-based course, we’ll model a lesson on defining a problem:

  • What is the problem?
  • Who owns the problem?
  • Why is it a problem?
  • What is the riskiest assumption and minimum risk criteria?
  • Are those assumptions and criteria valid?
  • Define the problem and a solution.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • formulate a problem hypothesis
  • engage with people to collect and synthesis information in order to refine a problem
  • apply a problem validation framework as a pedagogical strategy.

You will also be issued a Certificate of Attainment for 13 hours of CPD.

FEE-HELP and HECS-HELP are not available for Continuing Professional Education courses.


To cancel your registration, you must apply in writing to QUTeX.

If you cancel at least 10 business days before the course commences, you will receive a partial refund, ie. the total fee minus a non-refundable $100 administration fee. No registration refunds will be made after this time.
