Will you be under the age of 18 when you start studying in Australia?

Here is all the information you need to know.

The Australian Department of Home Affairs requires that students under the age of 18 have appropriate accommodation, support, and welfare arrangements in place before they start their studies at QUT.

We also know that leaving home to study overseas can be both exciting and scary. So we are here to guide you through the process and help you settle into your new life and study in Brisbane.

Step 1: Choose a guardian

Your guardian can be either:

  • A parent or person who has legal custody of you
  • A person nominated by either your parent or the person who has legal custody of you and meets the requirements set by the Department of Home Affairs
  • A QUT staff member from the QUT Student Services Under 18 Supervision program

Step 2: Choose your accomodation

Before you arrive, we will also need to approve your accommodation. You can choose to:

Step 3: Complete the under 18 guardianship form

When you have decided who your guardian will be and where you want to stay, complete the Under 18 Guardianship form and submit it to QUT before you accept your offer.

Once approved we will send you a Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare (CAAW) together with your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), which you will need when you apply for your student visa.
