Overview
Mediation is a structured negotiation process used across so many different professions and industries. Mediators use specialised communication and negotiation skills to resolve conflict in a variety of contexts such as in legal, government, consumer, workplace and education settings.

Evolve with QUTeX
Professionals who attend QUTeX’s Professional Development courses will develop their expertise to become better suited to today’s demand for diverse capabilities. Our mediation assessment is a hands-on mediation assessment that gives you the practical skills necessary to apply for national mediator accreditation.
Who should participate?
National accreditation is required or is an advantage for people seeking to mediate for some courts, tribunals, government departments and specialist mediation panels.
You will need to complete Professional Mediation Course and pass your national mediation assessment. You must also complete the 2-day national mediation assessment course within a 24 month period, as a requirement of the National Mediation Approval Standards. You will then need to apply to an accrediting body for national accreditation.
This accreditation scheme is overseen by the National Mediator Standards Board. To become accredited you will be responsible for your application, mediator insurance and any other costs. To retain your national accreditation you will generally need to complete 25 hours of co-mediation or conciliation and 25 hours of continuing professional development in each 2 year cycle.
Your expert facilitator Donna Cooper
Donna Cooper is a Senior Lecturer in the QUT Law Faculty and trainer in negotiation and mediation. She is a nationally accredited mediator and accredited family dispute resolution practitioner. She has been a practising mediator since 1993 and is on the Legal Aid Queensland Chairperson Panel. Donna has mediated in family, workplace and restorative justice disputes and has published extensively in the dispute resolution area.

This course will give you further practice of your mediation skills and:
- a continuation of the key mediation techniques and processes
