About

Hands-on problem- and project-based learning is essential to becoming an engineer.

Engineering Design and Professional Practise (EGB101) teaches you the engineering design process and the series of steps that guide the creation of innovative solutions to challenges.

This unit provides you with tools and ways of thinking that you can use in almost any engineering situation.

Overview

  • You will learn about strength of materials and load bearing mechanisms.
  • You will undertake introductory analysis, building and testing of engineering systems.
  • You may be required to undertake pre-readings prior to the intensive program in preparation for your project topic.

Learning objectives

In this unit you will learn how engineers:

  • analyse physical systems to predict their behaviour and application in practice
  • apply engineering design methods, tools and techniques to simple engineering systems
  • locate information, evaluate its usefulness to their engineering work, and use it
  • introduce you to communication skills, teamwork, research, cultural awareness and sustainable development practices.
