QUT Law School has partnered with Gadens and Brisbane Business Hub to provide a unique Work Integrated Learning experience for students and a value-add for the Brisbane startup ecosystem.
For many startups the law can feel overwhelming and unnecessarily complex. QUT Law School introduced a brand new elective unit this year, LLB465 Startup Law Clinic to provide an opportunity for Law students to gain real world experience.
Partnering with Gadens, a national corporate law firm that provides market-leading legal services across advisory, transactional and disputes, the Startup Law Clinic provides students with the opportunity to experience and further develop their skills through workshops, client interviews, preparing legal advice, reviewing contracts and drafting terms. Through the clinic, the students work alongside Gadens to provide free legal advice to early stage, traditional startups, as well as small businesses and social enterprises.
In March, the clinic surveyed local Brisbane businesses to identify the areas of the law that they needed more information on. In response, the students have spent the last few weeks creating video presentations on topics such as online defamation, liability clauses, privacy law, and Australian Consumer Law.
A free Q&A event and cocktail networking evening sponsored by Gadens is being held next week at the Brisbane Business Hub where students, industry and businesses will meet to discuss the new clinic and the topics in further detail.
