Orientation is held a week or two before classes start, and is a great opportunity to meet your fellow students, get to know your support staff, and find your way around campus. Orientation Week has a combination of information sessions and fun social activities, and is the perfect welcome to life at QUT.

Our free orientation events help you get started with your studies and give you the opportunity to meet your teachers and fellow students. Once you've accepted your offer at QUT, you'll be able to register for specific events. Make sure you don't miss out - you should arrive in Brisbane at least one week before the start of semester.

Orientation 2018

Orientation for Semester 1, 2018 will be held 12 -16 February.

You may need to attend more than one orientation program so check the information carefully.

Each faculty will be holding their own orientation session, please find further details on the Orientation website.

QUTIC students can find all the necessary information on the QUTIC orientation website.

All international students are required to attend the compulsory International Student Orientation session held on Monday 12 February, 2018 in room Z411 on Gardens Point campus.

Please note you need your student username and password to access the orientation information.

Degree students

All undergraduate and postgraduate students should attend one International Students Information Session. Attendance is compulsory for all degree students. The information session will provide you with information about studying at QUT as an international student, including

  • visa conditions & responsibilities,
  • overseas students health cover,
  • and rules specific to international students.

Study abroad and exchange program orientation

Students within the Study Abroad program, course code U082, U092 or the Exchange Program, course code U083, U093 should attend this program.  Attendance is compulsory for all Study Abroad and Exchange students. This session will cover important enrolment, safety and extracurricular information to ensure you get the most out of your program at QUT.

Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS)

All AAS sponsored students are required to attend an Introductory Academic Program (IAP) before starting their first semester. IAP is a compulsory five week intensive program developed and coordinated by International Student Services. It prepares new Australia Awards Scholarship holders for entry into undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at QUT. Within the first 3 months of arriving in Brisbane, you will be invited to attend the follow-up orientation program for new AAS students. We'll email you the details of the program, so make sure you check your QUT email regularly.

University entry program/ English language program orientation

These programs are conducted at the QUT International College on the Kelvin Grove campus. This orientation will provide you with the information you need to begin your course, as well as important information about:

  • studying and living in Brisbane
  • visa matters
  • accommodation
  • healthcare and insurance
  • support services and activities.

Research students

Orientation interview for research students enrolling in a PhD, professional doctorates, or research masters. This interview is to ensure that you:

  • complete all enrolment procedures
  • are informed of available services
  • will receive your scholarship entitlements as soon as possible.
