Practical placements

A range of practical placement opportunities are open to students who apply their developing skills to project areas as diverse as brain injury rehabilitation, drugs and alcohol, disability support, community services, educational assessments, industry and research laboratories.

Psychology and Counselling clinics

Our provisionally registered postgraduate psychology students provide therapeutic care to clients under the supervision of experienced clinical psychologists at community-embedded psychology and counselling clinics. Clients benefit from evidence-based clinical therapies, education and developmental psychology, family therapy, and counselling services.

Research partnerships

Our School specialises in applied psychology, working in partnership with industry, government, and community organisations to produce knowledge that can be directly applied to make a difference. We have a strong track record in research partnerships, which have produced real world tools such as e-Mental Health in Practice (eMHprac).

Mental health and wellbeing

We take pride in delivering research and teaching that promotes the wellbeing of people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds. Many of our academics are practicing clinicians who support the applied practice of psychology and counselling at the QUT Health Clinics, providing a wide range of services to the community.

Community evaluations

We have a diverse and multi-disciplinary group focused on developing collaborative spaces to work with community groups, promote health equity, and address pressing health and social issues. Student placements

Our research and teaching are built on a real world ethos strengthened by our industry partnerships. Our students gain a broad and deep understanding of the discipline and profession of psychology through exposure to the latest evidence and psychological practices. Our extensive range of placement opportunities allow our students to apply evidence based knowledge and skills, facilitating valued outcomes for our industry partners.


We host the internationally renowned Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety - Queensland (CARRS-Q), one of Australia's leading centres dedicated to research, advocacy, education and training in road safety.
