Scholarship details
What you'll receive
We are offering scholarships for two students to join this project. You'll receive:
- a living allowance of AU$28,597 for three years, indexed annually
- some financial support for the conduct and dissemination of research.
The scholarship is for full-time study and can be used to support living costs.
A six-month extension to the scholarship is also possible, subject to approval.
Eligibility
You must:
- meet the academic and English language entry requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy (IF49)
- have a first-class honours (H1) qualification or equivalent
- have research interests that align with those of the Teachers and Teaching Research Group
- propose a research topic that reflects an interest in social justice.
Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must first apply for and be accepted into a PhD at QUT.
How to apply for a research degree
Indicate your interest in this scholarship by nominating Professor Martin Mills as principal supervisor, and include the name of this scholarship in the financial details section.
If your expression of interest is accepted, you'll be invited to submit a full application, including a research proposal, to finalise your application.
What happens next?
Applications will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
Professor Martin Mills will consider the submitted expressions of interest and select the suitable candidates. Applications will be assessed based on:
- academic record
- research experience
- suitability of your research interests
- availability of a suitable second supervisor.
A shortlist of applicants will be invited to attend an interview with a small panel chaired by Professor Mills. This interview may be conducted remotely.
A start date can be negotiated, but you must start your research no later than 30 June 2021.

About the scholarship
The scholarship is being funded internally by QUT.
In addition to working on their PhD, you'll have the opportunity to work with a small team consisting of Professor Mills, two postdoctoral fellows and another PhD candidate on other projects addressing social justice and education.
The successful applicant with join the Teachers and Teaching Research Group, led by Professor Mills. You'll be able to access all the benefits associated with membership of this research group.
