How to apply

Step 1: Apply for admission to Harvard

You must apply for and gain admission to one of Harvard University's graduate and professional schools as a full-time degree student.

Follow the entry requirements and application deadlines set by the school you're applying to.

Admission to Harvard doesn't guarantee you'll receive a fellowship. You need to apply for the fellowship separately.

Submit your completed application form and supporting documents to Research scholarships.

You can apply for the fellowship before you know the outcome of your application to Harvard, but you must be offered a place by a Harvard school and accept it to be eligible to receive the fellowship.

Submit your completed application form and supporting documents to the Harvard Committee on General Scholarships.

What happens next?

We will rank applications based on:

  • outstanding academic achievement
  • strong personal characteristics
  • evidence of future leadership potential in your chosen field.

We'll send all the applications in ranked order to Harvard's Committee on General Scholarships, who will assess all Australian applications.

Fellowships will be offered based on the recommendations from Australian universities whose students apply, Harvard University admission decisions and review by Harvard's Committee on General Scholarships.

Conditions

For conditions, read what is included in the fellowship and the information for Australian applicants.

About the scholarship

The Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships were established at Harvard University in honor of the late Frank Knox, who served as United States Secretary of the Navy in the 1940s, and who believed that strong ties between the United States and the British Commonwealth were essential to international peace.
