What you'll receive

You'll receive a scholarship, tax exempt for full-time students, of $30,000 per annum for a period of three years, with a possible 6 month extension, subject to satisfactory progress.

If you're an international student, you will also receive either:

  • an Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) fees offset (International)
  • a QUT research degree (HDR) tuition fee scholarship.

As the scholarship recipient, you will have the opportunity to work closely with:

  • clinicians at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital
  • informatics specialists at CSIRO’s e-Health Research Centre
  • engineers at QUT.


To apply for this scholarship, you must meet the entry requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at QUT, including any English language requirements for international students.

You must also:

  • enroll as a full-time, internal student
  • hold a relevant degree of at least a first-class honours or equivalent, including:
    • engineering
    • informatics/computer science
    • physics
    • other related branch of study.
  • demonstrate skills in:
    • machine learning and/or computer vision
    • programming with Python and/or C++, and some experience with one machine learning or deep learning libraries (such as TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch)
    • oral and written communication.
