FreeHelp your Year 10 students answer the eternal question…'when will we ever use this?’
The QUT Applied Maths Seminar is for high school students to learn about the huge variety of applications for Mathematics in the real world. This seminar is designed to inspire students to consider Specialist Maths and Mathematical Methods when they are selecting their senior subjects.
Teachers are invited to nominate 15 to 20 Year 10 students to attend this seminar and interactive discussion with QUT researchers about their studies in Mathematics and where it has taken them.
Students will hear from a variety of different speakers who apply mathematics to change the world. Presentations can range from using mathematical models to understand why cheetahs have spotted coats but stripes on their tails, to scheduling surgeries in hospitals, predicting infectious disease outbreak and conservation of threatened species in environmental systems.
