Future You STEM Summit

QUT Future You STEM Summit is set to teach students the importance of a STEM mindset, helping to guide a new generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators to build the jobs of Australia’s future.

The 2022 STEM Summit includes the STEM Tasters and STEM Internship programs and is open to high-achieving Year 11 and 12 high-school students. Delivered in the September school holidays, both events will offer students the opportunity to expand their skill sets beyond the classroom and explore future career ambitions with like-minded peers, all before university.

The Future You STEM Summit four-day program also includes a program of:

  • inspiring keynotes with high-profile speakers
  • interactive Q&A panel sessions featuring local industry leaders, entrepreneurs and researchers
  • QUT alumni, academics, and current students speaking about how they use their STEM mindset every day.

STEM Tasters

The STEM Tasters program is designed to provide students with a taste of STEM technical skills, accessing labs and facilities at our Gardens Point campus in Brisbane. Students' will participate in up to six STEM practical experiences throughout the week.

These practical experiences have been designed to inspire, engage and up-skill students learning across our core streams of engineering, health and science.

As a summit attendee, students will be treated like a real QUT undergraduate, navigating their way around campus, accessing facilities and engaging with university staff and students during practical experiences.

During the on-campus summit week, students will:

  • take part in six university style lecture/tutorial practical experiences
  • learn from current QUT academics and tutorial staff
  • learn about university life from undergraduate STEM ambassadors

STEM Internships

The STEM Internship program provides an opportunity for students to immerse themselves into a research topic and become part of a research team at QUT.

The rigorous program develops students' technical, leadership and critical thinking skills through a suite of on-campus practical learning, professional development and external assessment.

As an intern, students will get to undertake collaborative, group STEM research projects, led by QUT STEM experts and linked to real-world research and industry challenges.

During the on-campus internship week, students will:

  • upskill in a STEM area of interest through a hands-on research project
  • work in small teams under the mentorship of esteemed QUT academics
  • learn about university life from undergraduate STEM ambassadors
