Costs

STEM camp is free for all participating students.

The camp is open to both local students and regional students. The program offers different support depending on how far you're travelling.

Regional and coastal Queensland, and northern NSW students (boarding)

We have places available for regional, Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and northern NSW students (subject to government travel restrictions) who will board for the duration of the camp. We provide:

  • accommodation
  • all meals
  • program materials and activities.

Transport to Brisbane will be arranged for regional students (from your closest airport, bus or train station).

Students from Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast or northern NSW will need to arrange their own transport to and from Brisbane.

Brisbane students (attending day sessions)

Students from Brisbane who will attend day sessions of the camp will have the following provided throughout the camp:

  • lunch and snacks all days
  • some dinners (to be confirmed with program closer to the date)
  • program materials and activities.

Brisbane students need to arrange their own transport to and from camp each day.

Financial Hardship

For any students experiencing financial hardship, travel bursaries may also be provided (conditions apply). Please contact accelerators@qut.edu.au to enquire about possible travel bursaries.

Transport and accommodation

Regional student transportation

If you're from a regional area and your application is successful, we'll fund your transport from your closest airport, bus or train station. Flights, buses and trains will be booked when you confirm your acceptance into the camp.

You are responsible for your travel arrangements to your point of departure and return. Make sure that you meet all travel plans for flights, buses or trains made by QUT. We are not responsible for missed flights, buses or trains.

A QUT staff member will meet you at your point of arrival in Brisbane, and will also escort you to your point of departure.

Boarding accommodation for regional and coastal students

You'll be accommodated at a local high school, Somerville House, in their boarding facilities. We have reserved this space for exclusive use.

Dormitories

Students will share a dorm with fellow participants. Rooms will be single sex only and there is one floor for female students and one floor for male students.

Each modern, dormitory style bedroom is air-conditioned and equipped with lockable lockers, bed linen and towels.

Security and supervision

The facility is proactive in taking preventative measures at its property to ensure they maintain the highest possible standards in the field of risk management.

Swipe keys are required to access all bedrooms, bathrooms and communal areas.

Somerville House boarding facility has a 24/7 security guard, qualified in first-aid. QUT group leaders will also be accommodated in rooms on the same floor and a QUT point of contact will be on call 24 hours a day.

Our group leaders

All QUT group leaders are QUT senior students or staff, who have been carefully selected by the university.

All of our group leaders have blue card qualifications and will reside at Somerville House for the full duration of the camp.
