Here are some frequently asked questions about our diplomas.
QUT College, based at Kelvin Grove campus, provides students with the opportunity to complete a diploma as a pathway into a bachelor degree. Here are some frequently asked questions about our diplomas.
What diplomas are available?
Currently students can apply for a Diploma in Business or a Diploma in Engineering.
What is the benefit of doing a diploma?
Students benefit from small class sizes and learn from highly qualified and experienced teachers. They can also take advantage of all QUT facilities and services. Completion of Diploma in Business will lead students into the second year of a Bachelor of Business, and completion of a Diploma in Engineering will lead students into the second year of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).
Is the ATAR/selection rank for the diploma program different from the bachelor degree?
Yes. The selection rank requirements to enter diploma programs are lower. The nature of tertiary education means that students who have potential to do well in a course often miss out because they do not achieve the required selection rank. This is not a reflection of a student’s capacity to achieve success, so QUT is committed to providing pathways for these students to enter their desired courses.
How do students apply for the diplomas?
Students apply for the diploma courses via QTAC. We recommend they order their preferences so that their desired bachelor degree is listed first, then place the relevant diploma as a lower preference.
Can students use a Certificate IV qualification to enter a diploma course at QUT?
Yes. This year we will be accepting VET qualifications from Cert IV and up.
Can students use a QUT diploma to get into other courses?
Yes. They will have a selection rank from their completed studies which they can use for entry to other courses.
