Professor Ian Turner, Professor Fawang Liu and Professor Kevin Burrage have been recognised as highly cited researchers for multiple years in a row by the Web of Science Group. They were chosen for their multiple papers that ranked in the top 1% by citations in the Web of Science.
Awarded for maths teaching excellence
Dr Belinda Spratt has been awarded the Australian Mathematical Society award for Teaching Excellence, for improving student engagement and perceptions of maths, particularly for students with maths anxiety. Her online videos, quizzes and live coding exercises have also helped her earn this prestigious award.
New Future Fellow
Dr Robyn Araujo’s $730,432 ARC Future Fellowship aims to develop a mathematical framework for analysing the way living cells process and interpret diverse signals from interacting proteins, and a novel methodology for validating mathematical models against experimental data.Find out more about Robyn's Future Fellowship
Revolutionising water quality management
In collaboration with the Queensland Department of Environment and Science, our researchers at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers (ACEMS) have developed statistical predictive tools that allow for lower-cost ways of assessing water quality in our lakes and oceans.Read more about our water quality research
We're a highly collaborative group with a focus on top-quality, cross-disciplinary research that aims to solve real-world problems of global significance. In the Australian Government's 2018 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) framework, our ambitious research programs were rated at the highest possible level: 'well above world standard.'
Our research strengths are in statistical data science, computational modelling and simulation, decision theory and systems optimisation. We have strong, existing research collaborations with the Institute for Future Environments (IFE) and Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI), as well as other interdisciplinary projects being undertaken in the Science and Engineering Centre.
