The Ecoacoustics Lab at QUT is researching how the collection and analysis of sound by autonomous audio recorders can scale biodiversity monitoring: www.ecosounds.org. Our research concerns the analysis of big audio data for answering ecological questions, for example to monitoring species and biodiversity. The large sound collections we capture are called soundscapes. Measuring soundmark temporal variations in ecoacoustic recordings

The QUT Ecoacoustics research group collects a massive amount of passively-recorded environmental audio data. The data, currently 93TB in size, constitutes more than 46 years of combined environmental monitoring. This audio data is analyzed so that ecologists may scale their observations of the environment.However, as with all data-intensive projects, the data is not perfect. The Ecoacoustics lab at QUT is researching how the collection and analysis of sound by autonomous audio recorders can scale biodiversity monitoring: www.ecosounds.org. There are many interesting audio recording devices and techniques for capturing and analysing audio. However whilst Ecoacoustics has been used in particular ecosystems to understand particular things e.g. biodiversity monitoring, there are no well developed protocols for ecoacoustic monitoring.
