Our research

Our research is leading the way in the fields of robotics, data science, autonomous systems, information security and computer-human interaction – areas which are of profound importance to society and industry.

Research in our school is carried out within the disciplines of:

Our research strength in robotics and computer vision has seen QUT appointed as leader of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Robotic Vision, which has received funding for a seven-year research program.

We are also playing a leading role in research into the various practical uses of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), at the Brisbane-based Australian Research Centre for Aerospace Automation.

Another of our key research strengths is in the field of data science. Our researchers provide major contributions to a number of multidisciplinary projects in this area.

Other research projects include investigating biometrics for security, development of terrestrial and marine autonomous systems, data mining, cryptology and network security.

A number of our expert researchers are also delivering capability into QUT's multidisciplinary Institute for Future Environments (IFE). Research in this area includes:

  • the development of future energy systems and clean technologies
  • the design and deployment of intelligent systems and machines that are responsive to their environments
  • the protection of critical information and communication networks.
