Science and engineering at QUT offers unique teaching and learning experiences, world-standard research, and real-world experience to ensure you become part of a sought-after global workforce.

Courses and research

We work closely with industry when designing our courses to ensure we meet changing industry trends and demands, so you are eligible for admission to professional associations when you graduate.

Our research students work alongside world-class experts in some of Australia's key cooperative research centres and institutions. We have strategic partnerships across research, including consultancy and expert services, professional development and student programs.

We also have the latest high-tech equipment and software in our laboratories and workshops, including our mechatronics lab and design fabrication lab, for hands-on learning experience.

Global links

Through research and commercial consultation, we have built connections and partnerships with leading organisations in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and urban development across Australia and the world. We are involved in key research projects and innovative, collaborative work that is funded by universities, government bodies and businesses.

Our connections will offer you valuable exposure to real-world experiences, including internships, project work, and commercial research. We also have exchange agreements with more than 100 partner institutions around the world, including institutions renowned for their excellence in STEM fields.

Applying to QUT

We offer courses to suit all international students, whether you want to undertake a science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM) or urban development degree. You can come to QUT for one or two semesters on an exchange, or enrol in a degree, double degree, postgraduate course or research degree, to begin a career in Australia and internationally.

Our exchange opportunities


We offer a number of scholarships for international students who wish to study with us. You may be eligible for research funding, for merit scholarships, or for a number of other financial aid and support programs.

The International Merit Scholarship is offered to international students who specifically want to study science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM) or urban development.

Studying at QUT


We offer two free orientation events, one held by the University and one by the Science and Engineering Faculty (SEF).

SEF orientation runs throughout the first four weeks of semester, and includes:

  • important course information and help with planning your study program
  • enrolment assistance
  • meeting with staff and students
  • tips for success in your study
  • information on extracurricular activities.

Once you have accepted your offer of a place at QUT you will be able to register for specific orientation events. To ensure you don't miss any important sessions, you should arrive in Brisbane at least one week prior to the start of semester.

While you're studying here, you're encouraged to socialise and network through student organisations and get involved in international activities.
