QUT Professor Lidia Morawska's outstanding research into air quality and its impact on human health has been recognised with the 2018 Eureka Prize for Infectious Diseases Research.
Professor Morawska, from QUT’s School of Chemistry, Physics and Mechanical Engineering, was part of the multi-institutional Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Air team that discovered how deadly pathogens that cause airway infections are transmitted between CF patients.
The team’s findings have led to real-world improvements on CF patient care, leading to changes in healthcare practice and policy, including the design of CF wards and clinics.
The research has helped reduce infection rates amongst CF patients, creating a positive impact on the CF community.
Professor Morawska is a highly regarded air quality researcher.
In 2017 she received the American Association of Aerosol Researcher’s David Sinclair Award for her research into atmospheric particulate matter, its origins and its impact on human health and the overall population.
