Engineering site visits needed for Power of Engineering events!
QUT’s Science and Engineering Faculty in partnership with non-for-profit organisation Power of Engineering Inc. delivers a sustainable program of events aimed at creating awareness of the different opportunities that a career in engineering can offer targeting high school students before they make senior subject selections. The program has a particular focus on inspiring females in metropolitan areas, regional and indigenous students.
Power of Engineering, is a fully funded day about engineering careers for 100 year 9 and 10 female students delivered on campus at QUT, by QUT’s Girls in Engineering Making Statements (GEMS) student club.
Students participate in hands-on challenging workshops and in the afternoons tour Brisbane industry locations, hearing from engineering professionals.
We are seeking industry site visits for students to participate in the afternoon session to help young people understand more about the world of engineering and identify the pathways and opportunities that are available to them upon leaving education. We are looking for engineering projects that can be shown off to a group of 10-20 students. For example, previous tours have included the hypobaric chamber at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital; GOMA “The Art of Engineering” with Bligh Tanner; a visit with Brisbane City Council to West End’s reconstructed CityCat Terminal; a technical presentation of the four bridges that cross the Brisbane River; and a tour of the Woolloongabba Trunk Sewer Upgrade.
