Hiroshi Ishiguro's Geminoid HI-4
Presented by the Institute of Future Environments
How many times have you said you need to be in two places at once?
Join the world's leader in the development of androids Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro (Director of the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory, Osaka University) through his human-like robot he's created in his mirror image – the Geminoid HI-4. Professor Ishiguro's Geminoid HI-4 will be remotely operated from Japan by Professor Ishiguro and will discuss his research into human-like robotics and how he has used it to better understand what it's like to be human.
Once we replace the human with an android, we can understand the human.

BIOGRAPHY
Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro received a D.Eng. in systems engineering from the Osaka University, Japan in 1991.
He is currently Professor of Department of Systems Innovation in the Graduate School of Engineering Science at Osaka University (2009-), Distinguished Professor of Osaka University (2013-) and Group Leader (2011-) of Hiroshi Ishiguro Laboratory at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute (ATR) and the ATR fellow.
His research interests include distributed sensor systems, interactive robotics, and android science. He has published more than 300 papers in major journals and conferences, such as Robotics Research and IEEE PAMI.
On the other hand, he has developed many humanoids and androids, called Robovie, Repliee, Geminoid, Telenoid, and Elfoid. These robots have been reported many times by major media, such as Discovery channel, NHK, and BBC. He has also received the best humanoid award four times in RoboCup.
In 2007, Synectics Survey of Contemporary Genius 2007 has selected him as one of the top 100 geniuses alive in the world today. In 2011, he won the Osaka Cultural Award presented by the Osaka Prefectural Government and the Osaka City Government for his great contribution to the advancement of culture in Osaka.
