Safeguard for the climate or safeguard for industries?
Climate change is a global challenge that needs to be addressed by national governments. The Safeguard Mechanism is Australia’s legislative response to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from emissions intensive industries. It requires these entities either reduce their emissions or purchase offsets.The purpose of this project will be to map the legal arrangements and consider the broader implications of those arrangements in terms of international trade requirements and impacts on landholders and other carbon offset projects.
