Augmented reality (AR) applications for robotic scene understanding
Augmented reality (AR), or mixed reality, has become a mature technology with many possible practical applications in manufacturing, retail, navigation and entertainment. We're interested in using AR to support human-robot interaction. In this project, you'll investigate how a human can use AR to better understand how a robot perceives the world and to understand the robot's intentions.

Strengthening security for cloud computing applications
In today's digital landscape, applications are increasingly being deployed on cloud platforms, offering benefits such as streamlined management and cost-effectiveness. However, even with the efforts of cloud providers to deliver reliable services, the risk of runtime failures and faults still exists. This project aims to address this challenge by exploring innovative approaches to detect and mitigate errors that occur during the operation of cloud-based applications. By proactively identifying and resolving runtime issues, we can enhance the overall performance, reliability, and …

Blockchain-based data governance for enterprise applications
Blockchain technology relies on consensus protocols to establish agreement on the system's state using data. However, existing consensus algorithms primarily focus on verifying adherence to pre-defined rules, which may not fully address the need for consensus among human operators in enterprise settings. To bridge this gap, our project explores the potential of lightweight mechanisms to achieve consensus in such scenarios. By investigating alternative approaches, we aim to develop solutions that enable efficient consensus among human operators, ensuring the success of …

Investigating the application of sustainable AI practices in construction
The construction industry plays a vital role in the global economy and there is a growing interest in utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to improve its productivity and efficiency. Despite the industry's significant contribution to the economy, it has faced challenges such as large cost overruns, extended schedules, and quality concerns. Nevertheless, AI is making significant strides to remove these issues by revolutionising various aspects of the construction industry. This is evident from enhancing project planning and design to improving construction …

Investigation of host tissue response to synthetic pelvic meshes in patients with complications
Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a prevalent disease affecting 37% of asymptomatic women. Pelvic mesh implantation is a common surgical procedure employed to treat stress urinary incontinence, rectal prolapse and pelvic organ prolapse. However, the use of pelvic meshes can cause complications such as erosion, infection, pain and discomfort, which sometimes require further surgery. In Australia, in November 2017, the TGA banned transvaginal mesh for prolapse. Currently, women with complications from their pelvic mesh may opt to have them surgically …

Early diagnosis of pregnancy complications using exosomes
Complications of pregnancy, including preterm birth represent the major causes of fetal and neonatal morbidity and mortality and potentially affect childhood and adult susceptibility to both cardiac and metabolic diseases. Early detection of these disorders is, therefore, essential to improve health outcomes for mother and baby.Exosomes are small (40-120 nm), stable, lipid bilayer nanovesicles identified in biological fluids (e.g. in milk, blood, urine and saliva). They contain a diverse array of signalling molecules, including mRNA, microRNA (miR), proteins, lipids and …
