The role of social-emotional learning in educational attainment and engagement

This project aims to characterise variability in developmental pathways to literacy and numeracy, and the factors that contribute to this variation, including children’s social-emotional competencies.The project also examines the role of school-based social-emotional learning programs in supporting children’s achievement of literacy and numeracy, and in reducing exclusion from school.The project uses data from the NSW Child Development Study - a longitudinal study following the development of a cohort of 91,635 children and their parents.

High-quality observations are the cornerstone of meteorology and climate science. Calendering lithium-ion battery electrodes: just roll with it

Calendering is the process of compressing and smoothing out a material by passing it between two rollers. This is a critical step of manufacturing thin films for energy storage and other applications, but one that can often be overlooked at a research level.This project will investigate the effect of calandering on electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Studies find that BitCoin will soon consume more power than the entirety of Australia. BitCoin’s energy consumption is nearing 200 terrawatt hours (TWh), while Australians consumed 192 TWh in 2020.Blockchain platforms such as BitCoin and Ethereum employ a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus and blockchain management algorithm, which relies on a computationally expensive cryptographic puzzle. Modelling and simulation of Li Ion Capacitors

Climate driven global efforts has led to the exponential growth of renewable technologies which has spurred further research into energy storage technologies such as batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells alike. Of particular interest are hybrid technologies such as Lithium-ion capacitors (LiCs) which bridge the technological gaps between batteries and supercapacitors, paving the way to a best of both world solution. Within LiC research, predictive physics models based on constituent material properties are lacking.
