Textual data contains a large amount of embedded information. This text information is easily extracted by humans, but is difficult for machines to interpret.

Using various textual analysis methods some information can be drawn out from pieces of text. An example includes finding the confidence in student-written answers.

Research activities

Various text analysis methods will be explored to extract information from student-written pieces of text. This includes uncovering patterns and insights.

Available datasets to analyse include:

  • student response data
  • student survey data
  • movie review data
  • medical data.

Upon conclusion of this research we expect to develop new methods for analysing student understanding within written text.

Skills and experience

To be considered for this project, you should have some skills and/or experience with Python programming and machine learning.
