Overview
We have an ongoing project that investigates how people change their work environment to suit their comfort needs. We want to better understand how building systems can be designed to increase human comfort over their personal comfort. This would contribute to designing buildings that are more responsive to occupant’s preferences and needs.
Research activities
You may be involved in the following research activities.
Literature reviews
Technologies for ambient intelligence
Revise and assess current technologies to capture interactions between users and the built environment (e.g., presence and motion sensors, augmented reality, speech and gesture recognition).
Ethics in ambient intelligence
Revise and assess best ethical practices for implementing ambient intelligence technologies in the built environment in Australia, based on the international experience.
Conceptualisation
Ideate a framework that integrates appropriate technologies to capture interactions in the field, following best ethical and privacy practices in research, and network and system requirements.
Outcomes
We aim to have an overview of potential technologies to capture interactions between users and the built environment that respond to best ethical and privacy aspects.
Skills and experience
Our ideal candidate will:
- be an undergraduate student in architecture and built environment
- have an interest in:
- learning about new technologies for ambient intelligence and their ethical considerations for implementation in the field
- learning how to systematise and scan the literature to examine trends and key themes.
- have basic knowledge in the use of spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel).
