Overview

There exist a number of methods for bridge deck analysis, e.g. grillage analysis, finite element analysis.
SECAN is a software based on Semi-continuum method for bridge deck analysis. Its latest version is developed using Microsoft
Visual Studio. This project aims to improve the software for comparison with other bridge deck analyses.

Research activities

SECAN was developed using Visual Studio to conduct bridge deck analysis, which could be executed under Windows XP. By including some system files it could also be executed under Windows 10. Students are required to improve the software so that it could be executed under Windows 10 directly. An option is to translate it first to Python and test each subprogram.

Outcomes

This project aims to improve the software for comparison with other bridge deck analyses.

Expected outcomes of this project are:

  • an improved version of SECAN, based on which some comparative studies on few bridge deck will be conducted.

Skills and experience

It is expected the student working on the project needs to have some background of experience in Window programming or some experience in python language programming or prepared to conduct research to learn that. It is also expected that the students should have been equipped with structural analysis techniques.
