Overview

Glycerol-based pretreatment is a very effective biomass deconstruction technology for enhancing the yield of fermentable sugars.

However, the pretreatment process also generates by-products which have negative effects on the enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose.

Research activities

In this honours project you will investigate the correlation between these by-products and the enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose. You will then develop strategies to overcome the negative effects.

Outcomes

Understanding of the effects of by-products will lead to the development of the effective hydrolysis strategies, enhancing the economics of biomass utilisation.
