The project aims to understand gene family dynamics in a range of different organisms. Topics that could be explored include toxin gene evolution in cnidarians, detoxification gene evolution in true fruit flies and hemoglobin evolution in molluscs.
This project will use genome sequencing and computational approaches to identify and characterise gene families in a variety of organisms.
Project outcomes will include the development of molecular biology and bioinformatics skillsets and information on how genes encode important functional traits.
