What is the purpose of this research?

Our research Australian Research Council Discovery Project is exploring factors that facilitate children’s physically active play. The aim of this study is to explore how children engage in active play with digital toys.

What will you ask me to do?

The observation session will take approximately 60min and can occur at home, at the park, on one of our QUT campuses, or wherever you feel comfortable. During this session, we will record and observe your child playing with 3 digital toys. To measure the levels of physical activity produced by these toys, your child will be asked to wear an ActiGraph accelerometer, which can be worn around the wrist like a watch or on the hip like a pager.

An interview, which will take 10-20min of your time after the observation session. Where we will be asking you about your thoughts on the toys your child has played with during the observation.

Will I be compensated for my time?

To recognise your contribution should you choose to participate in the joint interview and observation, the research team is offering each family a $25 Coles/Myer Gift Card.

I am interested - what should I do next?

If you are interested in participating or have any questions, please contact Nicole Vickery via email.
