Research ethics and integrity

The Office of Research Ethics and Integrity is committed to promoting 'a strong culture of research integrity and ethical research practice via appropriate training for academics, researchers and students(QUT Blueprint 2014).

We expect all staff, researchers and research students to comply with the principles of the:

Our office assists researchers to meet community standards for ethical research and research integrity. We:

  • help researchers understand how to comply with research codes and practices
  • promote responsible research conduct
  • provide guidance on research involving human participation, use of animals or high-risk biological agents.

Research with humans and their data or tissue

We expect all researchers to conduct human research in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research.

In evaluating human research projects, we uphold the National Statement's principles of:

  • research merit and integrity
  • justice
  • beneficence
  • respect.

Research and teaching activities with animals

We are licensed to care for and use animals for scientific purposes in accordance with the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.

Through the evaluation of animal research and the use of animals in teaching and learning, we uphold the Code's governing principles and ethical framework in guiding our decisions and actions.

Research with high-risk or genetically modified biological agents

We are dedicated to providing a safe environment for research activities involving genetically modified and high-risk non-genetically modified biological agents.
