Quickly following his appointment as Chairman of the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council, QUT Law lecturer James Morton has been appointed to the bench of Mount Isa as Magistrate.

James has extensive experience as a barrister and has worked closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Yvette D’Ath commented on the breadth of experience that the new appointees will bring to the bench.

“In particular, it’s pleasing to appoint magistrates who have demonstrated a commitment to regional Queensland,” Mrs D’Ath said.

James will join two other new Magistrates, Catherine Benson and Michelle Dooley, who were appointed to the benches of Emerald and Southport Magistrates Courts respectively.
