He has more than 30 years’ of experience in the transportation and heavy industrial sectors in Australia and the United States.  While at BHP Billiton he was a lead in BlueScope Steel’s successful demerger from BHP, and then as President of BlueScope Steel’s North American operations drove a major turnaround in performance.

At the Business Leaders’ Forum, which will be moderated by leading journalist Kerry O’Brien, Mr Hockridge will speak about his journey from a farming community in Tenterfield, NSW, to being recognised as one of Australia’s top business leaders, and will outline the leadership qualities that have successfully driven fundamental change in some of the nation’s major corporate enterprises.

He will also discuss his fervent belief in diversity and inclusiveness in the workplace. He is a founding member of Queensland’s “Male Champions of Change” group and, on behalf of Aurizon, signed the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles.  In 2016 he received a coveted Women’s Empowerment Principles Award in New York for advancing and empowering women in the workplace and the community. Aurizon is the first Australian company to win this award.

The QUT Business Leaders’ Forum this year marks 20 years of providing members of Queensland’s business and political community the opportunity to hear from speakers who are eminent in their fields.
