QUT has been selected as a finalist for a prestigious global excellence in teaching and learning award.

Run in association with Times Higher Education, publisher of the THE World University Rankings, the 2017 Global Teaching Excellence Award attracted nominations from universities and higher education providers across the world.

QUT is one of 27 institutional finalists from eight countries and is the only Queensland and Australian Technology Network university represented in the finalist list.

The overall winner will be announced at an award ceremony and dinner at Church House Westminster in London on 4 September.

Applications were assessed by an international judging panel against three areas including excellence in the Leadership of Teaching and Learning, Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Student Support and Achievement.

Deputy Vice Chancellor of Learning and Teaching Professor Suzi Derbyshire said QUT’s selection as a finalist for the award reinforced and raised the profile of QUT’s unwavering world class commitment to teaching and learning excellence.

“The finalist ranking is a credit to the collective efforts of the QUT community to establish QUT as a globally leading university that delivers a world class education and highly skilled, enterprising graduates prepared for 21st century employment and careers,” Professor Derbyshire said.

She said it was unique to recognise an institution as a whole for excellence overall in teaching and learning.

Professor Derbyshire said QUT had a strategic commitment to learning and teaching for the past 25 years and had implemented its first Learning and Teaching Strategy soon after establishment in 1989.

QUT’s Real World Learning 2020 Vision is enacted through strong partnerships with industry and students and a focus on employability.

QUT has excelled in national and global teaching awards and is in the top quartile for student satisfaction, based on a 2016 Student Experience Survey.

QUT is Australia’s highest ranked university for Employer-Student Connections (2016) and in the 2017 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings was ranked 24 in the world.
