26th October 2015

The biggest international Design Research Congress ever seen in Queensland will be hosted by QUT next month.

The 6th International Congress of International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR) - IASDR2015 INTERPLAY - explores the interplay of design research with science, technology and the arts will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from November 2-5, 2015.

Expected to attract more than 350 delegates from all over the world, IASDR 2015 INTERPLAY provides a global forum for discussion of trans-disciplinary knowledge and various design approaches to foster new research, opportunities and innovation.

Keynote speakers include Professor Darelle van Greunen, from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa, who will talk about how mobile technology can re-invent healthcare in Africa.

Author and management consultant Alexander Manu, from Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, will discuss the "new behaviour space" - his theory that companies now design behaviour spaces, rather than products or services.

Associate Professor Jane Burry, from RMIT University, will talk about designing with dynamic phenomenon such as wind and sound that bring together research from design, technology, science and mathematics.

Professor Vesna Popovic, the IASDR 2015 Chair, said it was a huge achievement to host the Congress in Brisbane and Australia.

"This is the largest design event Queensland has had and the Congress attracts the finest researchers in the design research world," she said.

"It is a celebration of the wide-ranging research and applications possible across various domains across science, technology, design and arts. It is an invaluable opportunity to inspire transformational innovation and foster transdisciplinary research collaborations."
